Blade- Steel D2
Handle – stabilized karelian birch
HRC 61 (very hard)
Our workshop performs engravings on steel for extra charge. please go to “more” section of our catalogue (on the main page), or use the link ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/780052327/engraving-on-steel-personalization?ref=shop_home_active_1&frs=1), and add the “ENGRAVING” to your cart (it will also ask you to add the text you like). Usually we make engravings on knives’ backs or on the flat parts, in order not to ruin knives’ designs. Engravings on steel are harder and more expensive to perform, but will stay forever, while those made on the wood and other materials will fade away.
D2 is an older, proven tool steel, relied upon in industrial settings for making some of the most durable cutting and metal forming tools possible. It’s hard, wear resistant, tough and makes an extremely long-lived and edge-holding knife blade. It also has enought chromium in it to be called “almost” stainless. When you want a knife edge to last and last D2 can offer a supreme cutting edge, and a fantastic knife that will last for many generations.
On your choice we also can cryogenically process your knife.
Cryogenic treatment of certain metals is known to provide three beneficial effects:
1) Greater durability: Cryogenic treatment helps to promote the transformation of retained austenite present in heat treated steels into harder martensite steel. This results in fewer imperfections and weaknesses in the steel’s grains structure.
2) Improved wear resistance: Cryogenic hardening increases the precipitation of eta-carbides. These are fine carbides that act as binders to support the martensite matrix, helping to resist wear and corrosion resistance.
3) Stress relief: All metals have residual stress that is created when it solidifies from its liquid phase into a solid phase. These stresses can result in weak areas that are prone to failure. Cryogenic treatment can reduce these weaknesses by creating a more uniform grain structure.
Please, take into account that the product is handmade,
and the one you will get wont be exactly the same as on the photo.
